Fernwood Parish Council has commissioned a ‘Youth Offer’ for Fernwood in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) and Newark and Sherwood District Council. Nottinghamshire County Council’s Young People’s Service will be delivering the sessions on behalf of the partnership.

Fernwood Parish Council recognises the need for more facilities for young people in the area and was glad when Julianne Tring, Team Manager for NCC’s Youth Service explained what was possible if the funding could be found. The Youth Service provides young people with somewhere safe to go, trusted Youth Workers, and fun and engaging things to do. The Parish Council has committed to fund this project for one year to make a positive difference to young people, their families, and their local communities. A review will take place before the end of 2022 to ensure the ‘Youth Offer’ is meeting the needs of the young people in our community, with a view to extending the project if so.

The Parish Council will use Community Infrastructure Levy funding to pay for youth service and has also applied for funding from NCC’s Covid-19 Partnership: Social Recovery Fund. Newark and Sherwood District Council and County Councillor Lee (Councillors' divisional fund | Nottinghamshire County Council) have both also contributed to this project. Councillor Lee said 'It gives me great pride to able to say, working in partnership, you’ve been able to bring a youth service offer to Fernwood. Without the Parish Council, we would not of been able to bring this service forward and I thank them for their support. I personally thank all of the people involved in bringing this service to our young people in Fernwood.'

The Youth Club will be delivered by Nottinghamshire County Council’s Youth Service in Fernwood Village Hall on Friday evenings. NCC are currently working on the recruitment of a Youth Worker and two Youth Support Workers. If you are interested in these posts, please contact Julianne Tring by emailing: [email protected]

The Youth Club will be for children in school years 6 to 11 on a Friday night from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. The target date for first weekly Youth Club session is 4 February 2022. This is subject to successful recruitment of staff and any Covid restrictions. Further updates will be provided as soon as the recruitment process has been completed.
